I can't believe Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I'm so excited. I absolutely love Thanksgiving, and not just because it's my birthday. I love the decorations, the weather (although it's going to be 80 degrees in Phoenix, but it's a nice break from the summer), and being with all of my family. It's a nice way to forget about all of the stresses of my life; finishing up my last semester of college, planning my wedding, working, etc. I honestly can't express how much I love Thanksgiving. It's my favorite holiday and I look forward to it all year. I'm sure my fellow "foodies" and food bloggers feel the same way!

This is a perfect last-minute dish for Thanksgiving. My future father-in-law (Jay - check out his blog, Journey to St. Andrews) took Kramer and I to a restaurant called Liberty Market in Gilbert last weekend and Jay and I had a roasted sweet potato salad that was absolutely delicious. I loved it so much that I wanted to try making it myself at home. It's not quite the same, but it's pretty close, and I'm really happy with it! I used yams instead of sweet potatoes, and baked it with a quick sauce of maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and honey, then tossed it with toasted pecans and dried cranberries, which the original salad had. This is a great vegan or vegetarian side dish that tastes fantastic served hot or cold. I hope you all have a fantastic (and safe) Thanksgiving! Recipe after the cut or on my blog at The Crepes of Wrath.

"Hi my name is Val and I dropped out of Law school because I love the kitchen, apples, cinnamon and buttery pastry too much"
(that will ideally not happen..)

SO, I'm having my exams right now and I haven't even started studying for my Law of Contract paper which is in a week. However, I chanced upon Chez Pim's flaky pastry recipe http://www.seriouseats.com/2009/11/video-chez-pims-super-easy-pie-tart-dough-recipe.html this morning and the only thought that processed through my head was:

Screw law school, Oven here I come

SO YES, 800 Calories, a very flabby me and a flaky buttery pastry oozing with apple sauce and all things good later... here's a little preview of why (for now at least) apples > contract law :)

ENJOY! )

My sister gave me this recipe years ago. I have made it oodles of times. And I have also asked her for the recipe oodles of time, as I am selectively disorganized.

It may not look like much, but it is soooo good. I cannot eat store-bought hummus because it doesn't even taste like anything after having homemade.

I am responsible for the appetizers at Thanksgiving so this is one of the things I am taking.

I start my Thanksgiving baking today, and one of the things I'm making is a sweet potato pie. I've made it before, and the pie itself is amazing, but I've never quite gotten the crust right. I've usually done a graham cracker crust, but I was thinking about using a gingersnap crust this year, because the pie itself isn't extremely spicy but I think it would go well.

However, every gingersnap crust recipe I've seen has pecans in it, and I'm deathly allergic to pecans! Anyone have a recipe without? Would it be too overwhelming to use just gingersnaps?

I'm also considering something someone mentioned over in [info]hip_domestics ; making some cookie dough, pressing it into a pie plate, baking it for a few minutes and then baking the pie in it. The person who originally posted this was using sugar cookies, but I think sugar cookies might be too sweet, so I might use a molasses cookie dough. However, the pie has to bake for 45 minutes--should I still pre-bake the cookie crust?

Hello! from a first time poster/new member. I've recently gotten very into baking and sharing what I've done, I'm a sucker for approval :]. I've been seeing these rainbow cakes, cupcakes, etc all over the blogosphere so I just had to make them. I made the cupcake variation for my aunt whose husband just died and has been having an all around hard time with his family. They made her smile which made me feel I did the right thing.

My family knows I bake and they always request food for Christmas. Some members I see often, so I can give them something fresh every time I see them over the next couple of months.

Some people I don't see as often, so I need some good recipes that I can make, freeze, and give to them. Then they can unfreeze it whenever they want a treat.

I have a few recipes that work for me, but I've used them before and want something new. I'm looking for cookies, brownies, bars, and maybe cream or custard pies.

I'm looking for a recipe of a cookie I don't particulary know what the name of it is.

It's a really crumbly cookie that was covered in powdered sugar, shaped like a ball and had almonds in it. I tried googling and google imaging and I can't really find what looks like it but they were delicious but the bag was full of the powder with tons of cracked delicious parts, it was a Thanksgiving treat bag that my bf's dad brought home from his office.

Thankssss

I'm an American living in Canada, and I have an annual tradition to bring US Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends. But because we don't get Thursday off, we celebrated it this past weekend.

Lemon Angel Food Cake III

I've never eaten, much less made, an angel food cake before but when I came across a recipe for it in Martha Stewart's Living this week, I could barely resist.

The cake turned out really good! Incredibly moist and fluffy, I really wouldn't have believed there wasn't an ounce of fat in it if I didn't make it myself.

Now, I just have to dig up all the angel food cake recipe I've skimmed by and give them a shot. If this cake is anything to go by, they're bound to be fantastic.

I made some pretty killer brownies today, I must say! It was my first time making brownies and I was delighted with how chewy and fudgy they came out! I also wanted to spice them up a bit, so while I followed this recipe from the Joy of Baking website, I also added a mixture of cinnamon, chili, paprika, and a hint of cloves. I intended to make the recommended ganache with them, but discovered with dismay that I had no whipping cream. So I melted chocolate with butter and milk, added icing sugar and made frosting instead - delicious, chocolately, sinful frosting. :)

I also made cinnamon sugar cookies, basically by adding 1.5 tsp of cinnamon to a regular sugar cookie recipe and rolling the cookies through cinnamon sugar before flattening slightly and baking. I made both of the above to jazz up a platter of Christmas cookies my mother had made for company. Under the cut, there are some general party food pics as well. My mother made the other things on said platter. :)

The flash was very bright, but I wanted to get an close-up of the brownies to show their delicious texture!

For my 2nd cooking class (in Singapore) that I was teaching, a good friend who is a professional photographer came by and shot pictures of the class.

For that class, I taught Thai Beef Salad, Chicken & Mushroom Mash on Truffle Scented Mash and of course this wonderful Apple tart.

The pictures honestly came out cookbook standard! I am still blown away by how good they look.

There were so many nice pictures to choose from that I decided to share the Apple Tart picture. If you are keen to check out more pictures of the class, click here
